How to distinguish stainless steel 304 and 316?
June 13 , 2022
Different properties, 304 steel grades are resistant to corrosion by sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, potassium acid, urea, etc. It is suitable for occasions with low corrosiveness or non-contact materials, such as general water, controlled gas, wine, milk, CIP cleaning fluid, etc.

316 steel adds molybdenum element on the basis of 304, which can significantly improve its resistance to intergranular corrosion and oxide stress corrosion, as well as reduce the hot tendency during welding, and it also has good resistance to aluminum chloride corrosion. Chloride corrosion resistance, 304 stainless steel is non-magnetic, and its metallographic structure cannot be changed by heat treatment. 316 stainless steel has a special corrosion-resistant structure due to the addition of molybdenum element, and has stronger resistance to chloride corrosion. It is also used as "marine steel".
